Finding A Job Online: Put your best foot forward!

Finding a new job has become much easier in the last 10 years thanks to the growth of the Internet.  Modern technology enables the job hunter to search and submit to prospective employers with the click of a mouse.  In essence, the Internet has taken the leg work out of job hunting.

Changing times mean new rules.  Here are a few things to remember when searching for a job online:

1. Get a great cover letter.

Your first impression is the letter or email your resume is attached to.  A perfect cover letter means more job offers.  Over 50% of all job applicants are tossed aside because of a bad or non existent cover letter.  Always present yourself the way you hope to be perceived.

2.  Ask Questions
You never know what you’re going to get on the Internet.  When looking for a job online it is imperative that the job seeker ask plenty of questions of the prospective employer.  Do your research and find out as much information as possible about the companies background and the background of it’s founders.  If anything seems strange to you, don’t be afraid to ask.  If anything a prospective employer will be impressed with your diligence.  Remember:good companies have nothing to hide.

3.  You Are Your Resume Online:
An ideal resume is ready for first glances.  Make sure it’s easy to read and well constructed.  Spend time on your mission statement and try to chose professional language that best represents you.  Always list your most recent, or most prestigious work at the top of the resume, and include some personal hobbies at the bottom.  Once you have a resume you’re proud of, upload it everywhere.  There are plenty of job hunting sites, and the more attention you can attract the better.

Use the Internet to your advantage when job hunting online.  Remember to ask questions and put your best foot forward.  Go get that job!
